Heat ExhaustionHeat stroke is caused due to prolonged

exposure to high temperatures.In this situation, the body absorbs more heat

than it can dissipate, leading to an extreme rise in temperature.

When the body temperature reaches 104F(40C), it is considered to be heat stroke.

CausesExposure to a hot environment: Exposure to

hot, humid weather for long periods brings about the rise in temperature.

Any sort of physical activity done in the hot sun also causes heat stroke.

Wearing heavy clothing which prevents easy evaporation of sweat.

Decreased consumption of fluids leading to dehydration.

First AidMove to a shady place: Avoid exposure to

Try getting the person’s body temperature down by giving either a cold bath or damp sheets.

Try to rehydrate the person by giving him fluids.Try cooling the head by placing an ice bag. When

the head is cooled, chilled blood circulates throughout the body, eventually cooling it.

Natural remediesEat foods with whole grains, leafy vegetables,

bananas and nuts to get potassium and magnesium.

Drink raspberry or peppermint tea to cool down the body.

Avoid any food that contains excess salt. Sodium hampers the production of sweat in the body.

Consume buttermilk made from yogurt.

Natural remediesMake a mixture by grinding black

peppercorns in coconut milk. Applying this on the skin cools down the body.

Mash tamarind to a pulp and apply it on hands and feet. This is beneficial in heat stroke.
