With the approach of Vesak and Sri Sambuddatva Jayanthiya 2600

Celebrations, the Hertiance Ahungalla planned many activities

in the Hotel for the guests to conincide with the nation-wide

Vesak celebrations

To prepare staff spiritually the Hotel organised a religious

sermon (Bana) for the staff on 16th May, 2011 @ 3.00 p.m.

It was also planned to hold a Inter-department low cost creative Vesak

Lantern Competition, which was judged by some of the guests and

special invitees. Six beautiful lanterns were created by the staff members which were on display at

the Hotel Lobby.

JUDGES IN DISCUSSION

The day's programme started @7.00 p.m. with all staff and guests

gathering up at the Lobby to participate in a Perehera which went upto the Main Gate of the Hotel to light up the low cost

pandol (using minimal electricity) by a guest. The Pandol depicts the Buddha in meditation protected by a Cobra holding its hood over the

Budda's head.

"Dansala" distributing a delicious cold drink of Nestomalt prepared in the Hotel Kitchen to thousands of

"passers by"

Another attractive feature of the celebrations was "Heritance

Ahungalla Bhakthi Gee Saraniya" - A team of staff member aboard a

decorated vehicle singing devotional songs (Bhakthi Gee) in the vicinity.
