• Summary

TPE 2017

RENKERT OIL

• Founded 30 years ago to support the rubber process oil industry

• Expanded to support a wide range of industries with product expertise and logistics

• Rubber, plastics and TPEs

• Food and medical grade applications

• Base oil and lubrication

• Electrical insulating oils and specialties

• Focus on Americas and Europe using Group II and III water-white process oils

EVOLUTION OF REFINING• Group I: Refining crude oil began with separation technologies – Distillation, wax chilling, solvent extraction to purify the desired paraffinic oils.

• Group II: Use of catalysts and high pressure hydrogen has allowed refiners to convert and reform the molecules so even poor crudes can be used and improved without wax and aromatics byproducts.

GROUP II OILS IN THE TPE MARKET

• Advantages of Group II process oils have been embraced for specific applications

• Automotive interiors meeting Fogging tests

• Color stability and color match

• Especially for white and lighter colors

• Clean, nontoxic and environmentally safe also available

in USP / European Pharmacopeia grades

• Supply security as Group I plants close

RESULTS OF OIL STUDY

• Higher Molecular Weight Process Oil performs better in Fogging (Photometric)

• Base polymer is a small component of fogging (0.8%)

• Standard ParaLux Oil adds about 7.8%

• Renoil 1500-LV reduces this impact by almost half to 4.4%

• Gravimetric fogging results show similar 43% reduction when using High Molecular Weight Extender Oil.

• Equal weight percent of the higher viscosity/MW oil gave similar Shore A hardness, but slightly more high MW oil may be utilized.

• 50% ParaLux 6001 66 Shore A

• 50% Renoil 1500-LV 69 Shore A

• 0% extender oil 97 Shore A

TPE 2017

SUMMARYThe global supply of process oils is changing with advanced refining replacing Group I

• Group II process oils

• Are available worldwide

• Have been embraced in TPEs especially colors

• ParaLux 6001 meets current fogging requirements

• Renoil 1500-LV high MW clear process oil

• Performs significantly better in automotive fogging

providing some flexibility with polymer choice

• Similar to volatility, the expected mobility of the

higher MW oil is much lower
