PRESENTATION• Make the information relatable–Use many examples of real-life

situations• Keep it entertaining–Incorporate humor, a lively attitude–Use television and pop culture

references

In an episode of the popular sitcom Seinfield, Elaine is concerned with the content of her medical record (she is labeled a “difficult patient”), and employs her friends to help her steal the record when the physician refuses to modify the chart.

In reality, Elaine would be protected by

the HIPAA privacy rule. She would not

only hold be able to rightfully access her

medical record, but she would also be

able to request an amendment to the

record entry that she found incorrect or

untruthful. (Edgecomb, 2015)

INTERACTION• Break large group into smaller groups–Have members share personal

examples of HIPAA related concerns–As a group, chose one of the examples

to present to the rest of the group• Highlight the violation• Offer suggestions for future avoidance

INTERACTION• Engaging participants will help make

training more impactful and interesting

• Asking participants to think about their environment will help them apply the concepts they learn
