+ REASON FOR THE USE OF ATOMIC BOMB
Many historians believe that the main reason to use the bomb was retaliation for the surprise and brutal attack on pearl harbor.
Japan refused the declaration.
The USA did not want to invade Japan.
They reasoned that using the atomic bomb would deliver a huge blow to Japan. This would save the lives of hundreds and thousands of American troops.
United States came with a new tactic to force Japan to surrender by POTSDAM DECLARATION.
POTSDAM DECLARATION
Truman’s first attempt at negotiating with Japan.
Called for Japan’s unconditional surrender and an end to Japan’s militarism in Japan.
Issued on July 26
There were four targets to choose from: Hiroshima ,Nagasaki ,kokura ,Niigata.
Hiroshima was the primary target of the first nuclear bombing mission on 6 August, with Kokura and Nagasaki as alternative targets.
Hiroshima and Nagasaki were selected because they were left mostly untouched by the war.TARGETS
