Homecoming Court Nominations

• In homeroom, you will receive paper ballots on which you should write your choice for Homecoming Court representatives. You may only select one male and one female. If you choose more than one, or if you choose someone who is not in your grade level, the ballot will NOT be counted.

• Once the ballots have been totaled, the names of the most frequently listed candidates will be entered into Moodle for the final voting.

Homecoming Court Nominations (cont.)

• You will be able to vote for these candidates on Moodle. We will announce the dates for the voting.

• The Court will be presented at the Homecoming Dance and on the field during the Homecoming Game’s halftime. The King and the Queen will be announced then.

Environmental SustainabilityWhy should you care?

Sustainability-what is it? Using resources in such a way to satisfy

current human needs while protecting those resources for future generations to use.

It’s a way of protecting our future, or your future!

What kind of resources? Water Air Nonrenewable Energy sources such as

oil, gas, coal, uranium Renewable resources such as trees Species, including plants, animals and

microorganisms

Did you know …. That if everyone in the world used

resources like we do in America, that it would take 4 to 5 earths to support the earth’s population?

We call this an ecological footprint

Our resource use which includes water, air, energy and all other materials to live the lifestyle we currently live.

Americans have the largest ecological footprint in the world!

Current Water Availability: Did you know?

20% of the world’s population lacks access to safe drinking water?

The lack of clean water kills an estimated 4500 children per day?

1/3rd of the world’s population lives in a water stressed country? By 2025 this is expected to rise to 2/3.

Air Pollution-did you know? The World Health Organization states

that more than 2.4 million people die each year from air pollution.

Much of this pollution comes from burning fossil fuels in automobiles and for industrial purposes.

Nonrenewable Energy Sources-Did You know?

There is no infinite supply of oil, gas, coal or uranium.

These energy sources are considered nonrenewable because they cannot be produced on a scale which would be sustainable.

This means we will run out of them eventually, perhaps in your lifetime.

Renewable Resources-did you know?

1 ½ acres of rainforests are lost every second.

Nearly ½ the world’s species of plants, animals and microorganisms will be destroyed due to this deforestation.

Many of our current medicines were derived from rainforest species.

There are species that have not been discovered yet that could be of use to us!

What can you do right here at Cherokee High School?

Reduce Reuse Recycle

REDUCE This is the best way to live sustainably. Buy less! Carpool Use cloth grocery bags instead of

plastic. Refill water bottles from the water

fountain. Choose products that have less

packaging.

REUSE Repurpose old items such as empty

clean glass containers for household purposes

Shop at Thrift Stores Use waste paper as memo pads Remake old clothing items into new

accessories

RECYCLE Use the green boxes in your teacher’s rooms

to recycle paper. Ask your parents to recycle paper, plastic,

glass and old magazines. Most waste companies provide this service.

Check for local recycling centers. Join an environmental group that promotes

recycling. Don’t throw electronic equipment out-take it

to a community recycling day.

Environmental SustainabilityYou can make a difference. What’s to lose except a better, cleaner, healthier world for you, your children, and your grandchildren. Act now!
