Hong Kong Association of Travel AgentsHATA held its Spring Dinner on 11 March 2013 at the Cinderella Ballroom of the Hong Kong Disneyland Hotel, at which 300 members and guests got together to celebrate the Chinese New

Year. Before the Dinner, 65 HATA members joined a famil-iarisation tour to Disneyland to find out more about the facilities in the new themed area. In addition, a seminar on travel risk management, which was attended by about 50 members, was held by HATA on 17 April 2013 at the TIC to help them understand pre-trip risk evaluation for outbound package tours and press handling skills after an accident.

The Federation of Hong Kong Chinese Travel AgentsThe FHCTA organised a familiarisation tour for its members during 1- 6 April 2013 so that they could leisurely spend six days on a cruise, visiting Keelung, Tai-wan, Ishigaki Island, Japan and Shanghai. Furthermore, the FHCTA and the Hong Kong Inbound Tour Operators Association co-organised a seminar on 23 May 2013.

Tourism Commissioner Mr Philip Yung and Registrar of Travel Agents Mr Paul Fong were invited to talk about the to-be-established Travel Industry Authority and the specific arrangements of the new regulatory framework.

International Chinese Tourist AssociationICTA members travelled to Biling Villa in Shenzhen, Guangdong prov-

ince on a familiarisation tour organised by their association on 29 and 30 March 2013, and visited experimental fields of hybrid rice and tasted various organic foods. Led by their Chairman Mr Martin Ma, upwards of 80 ICTA members joined another familiarisation tour to Jiangmen, Guangdong province on 13 and 14 April 2013. They enjoyed local cuisine and spent a happy weekend together.

The TTOA held its general meeting and election of directors on 26 April 2013, at which the following persons were elected: Mr C K Kai (Chair-man), Mr Sy Chun Ming (Vice Chairman and Honorary Secretary), Mr Ginger Keung (Director and Honorary Treasurer), Mr Warren Tong, Mr Manuel Lo, Mr Charles Ng, Mr Leo Li, Mr Wong Yee Yin and Mr Choi

Hong Kong Association of China Travel Organisers HACTO members travelled by high-speed rail on 26 April 2013 for a three-day visit of the White Swan Hotel Changsha in Hunan

province. Local tourism and government of-ficials hosted banquets for the members and invited local traders to exchange ideas with them. The members also visited scenic areas near Changsha, and found the trip most fruitful.

Hong Kong Outbound Tour Operators’ AssociationThe OTOA held a briefing on the specific arrangements of the new regulatory frame-

work of the travel industry at The Mira Hong Kong in Tsim Sha Tsui on 10 May 2013. Its Chairman Mr Alex Lee and Executive Committee members extended a warm welcome to Tourism Commissioner Mr

Philip Yung and Registrar of Travel Agents Mr Paul Fong. During the briefing, Mr Yung gave a detailed account of the new regu-latory framework and the progress of the rel-evant work. With OTOA members actively raising questions, the event was conducted in a lively at-mosphere.

Hongkong Japanese Tour Operators AssociationThe HJTOA organised a familiarisation tour on 7 March 2013 in order for its members to get to know the Hong Kong SkyCity Marriott Hotel and the Auberge Discovery Bay Hong Kong, both on Lantau Island, and their managers. Additionally, HJTOA directors left for Japan on 21 May

2013 to call upon the Japan Tourism Agency, the Japan National Tourism Organisation, the Japan Association of Travel Agents (JATA) and local traders. During the four-day trip, the Hong Kong traders updated their Japa-nese counterparts on how the Hong Kong travel industry fared recently, and expressed their hope that Hong Kong would be pro-moted with more effort.
