Rubinstein-Taybi Syndrome

• Taybi, while in pedi radiology training in

1955, recognized RTS in 7 unrelated children,

described it in 1957, identified as a recognizable

syndrome with Dr. Jack Rubinstein in 1963

• Broad thumbs and great toes, facial abnormalities and mental retardation

• Caused by a deletion or mutation of the

short arm of EP300 gene• Over 400 cases reported with this syndrome since 1963

Hooshang Taybi, MD

• Retired as Director of Radiology at CHO in 1986

• Learned how to sew

• Gave clothing to unprivileged children and victims of earthquake in his home country

• Always said “ .. It is better to give than to receive..”

• Loved poetry, painting, ceramics

Hooshang Taybi, MD

• He learned how to make jewelries and fashioned ceremonial presidential chains for SPR and ESPR

• Gave generously to SPR and the children’s Hospital Oakland Foundation

• Wrote his autobiography at the request of a nephew in Iranand later translated it into English

• Dr. Taybi died at his home in Walnut Creek, California on August 22, 2006
