Known for being the ‘most exciting two minutes in sport’, The Kentucky Derby is one the world’s most famous horse races and the first leg of The Triple Crown with The Preakness Stakes and The Belmont Stakes following The Kentucky Derby. The race is open to three-year-old thoroughbreds and takes place annually at Churchill Downs on the first Saturday in May. The race is contested over 2kms has been run every year since 1875.
