“Mission into the Future – A Quest for Sustainability”

How Can We Save Energy?

• Made by Raluca Andronoiu• 8th grade• Scoala Gimnaziala Magura

2

Earth has many resources that we use and need to save.

Earth energy is useful but it does not last forever.

3

This energy has to be protected.

Energy is the ability to do work.

4

Types of energy

• Solar energy

• Wind energy

• Hydroelectric

• Geothermal energy

5

Solar energy

Solar plants are designed to make use of the

sun's energy.

6

Some people are already using solar energy on its own initiative.

7

Wind power

Wind turbines producing electricity from wind energy. Largest wind farm in the world was opened in the UK and has

100 wind turbines, enough electricity to power a city of 200,000 inhabitants.

8

Hydroelectric energy

Hydropower plants are mechanisms that use water power to produce electricity.

9

Geothermal energy

There are three types of geothermal power plants are used to date the globe to transform power into electricity geothermal water: dry, flash and binary fluid depending by state: vapor or liquid, or by temperature.

10

Using central heating people can use and save energy and resources at the same time. But not in all countries there is a concern for saving energy.

11

Some energy saving methods:

12

Use fluorescent bulbs, which use much less energy to operate and are more durable than incandescent.

13

Choose your modern electronics, more efficient, such as LCD monitors instead of CRT or change

desktop system with laptop

14

In the kitchen, if you have to choose between an electric stove or microwave , choose the last one,

because it uses a third and half the energy compared with electric stove.

15

Unplug all electronic devices and appliances, when not in use, because even if they are not running, they consume energy while

stand set.

16

Use tumble dryers only if it is absolutely necessary. These use up a lot of energy . If, however, you are

forced to do it, make sure the filter is clean, because air can circulate more effectively. Of course, dry clothes

outside whenever you can.

17

Use air conditioners only if absolutely necessary. Try to keep doors and windows closed during the day and cover them with blinds or finally curtains to block sunlight.

18

Outside your home install a motion sensor that illuminates light only when it detects motion.

19

You will save a lot of money installing efficient windows that capture the sun's heat in winter and

releases it in summer.

20

Today, research focuses on converting biomass into alcohol, which could serve as fuel to supplement or even replace gasoline and diesel. Other liquid energy from biomass such as vegetable oils.
