HOW TO CREATE A MODULE IN ECAMPUS

Presented by the Office for Academic Innovation

TRAINING OBJECTIVES

By the end of this training, participants will be able to:

Design your eCampus course with a learner-centric design, including: Start Here page and Modules.

GETTING STARTED

Log in and access your eCampuscourse(s) for this training.

To request a course shell in eCampus, please visit ecampustools.tamu.edu

DOWNLOAD MODULE

This training will be conducted using the eCampus Module template. You can access the download via the ZOOM chat.

IMPORT MODULE

In a course shell, import the modules template. To do this:1. Download the file sent via Chat (do not unzip

it!)2. Log into eCampus and navigate to the course

you would like to use this template3. Under the Control Panel, click Packages and

Utilities then click Import Package / View Logs4. Click Import Package5. Under the Select a Package area, click Browse

my Computer and locate the file you downloaded

6. Under Select Course Materials, click "Select All" then click Submit

LEARNER-CENTRIC DESIGN IN ECAMPUS

START HERE

A Start Here area typically has information that students will need to get started in a course. This section typically includes:• Course overview and structure• Instructor introduction• Syllabus• Course schedule• Communication Policy• How to get help• Any other resources and information

ACTIVITY: START HERE

In the Modules Example template you uploaded into the course, update the following in the Start Here content area:• Name• Office Hours• Office Location• Email• Preferred communication• Email response timeframe• Learning outcomes

COURSE NAVIGATION

Content Areas and Tool Links can be added to the course navigation menu for quick links to areas within the course.

Examples of Content Areas you may consider adding include:• Start Here• Course Materials• Assignments / Assessments• Resources

Examples of Tool Links you may consider adding include:• Annoucements• Email• My Grades

CONTENT AREAS

1. From within the course, click on the + Icon located on the left-hand course navigation menu

2. Select Content Area3. Name the Content Area4. Check the Available to Users box 5. Click Submit6. This will add the Content Area to the

bottom of the course navigation. Click and Drag the Content Area to the desired location on the menu

TOOL LINK

1. From within the course, click on the + Icon located on the left-hand course navigation menu

2. Select Tool Link3. Name the Tool Link4. Select the tool type from the dropdown5. Check the Available to Users box Click

Submit6. This will add the Tool Link to the bottom

of the course navigation. Click and Drag the Content Area to the desired location on the menu

BUILD CONTENT

1. From within a Content Area, click on Build Content

2. Select the type of content you would like create, such as:• Item• File• Web link• Learning Module• Content Folder

CONTENT TYPES

• Item: The most flexible content type that can include text, files, and link.

• File: Single file upload directly from your computer.

• Web link: Link to an external site.• Learning Module: Set of content that

includes a structured path for progressing through the items.

• Content Folder: Content organized into a structure of nested folders, including items, files, and web links.

CONTENT FOLDERS

1. From within a Content Area, click on Build Content, and select Content Folder

2. Name the Content Folder3. Click Submit

ACTIVITY: MODULE

In the Modules Example template you uploaded into your course, update the following in the Modules content area:• Module number• Module name• Create new content folders as needed

ADD CONTENT

Items are the most flexible and common content created in eCampus. You can use items to add text, attachments, or videos to your course in a streamlined and logical structure.

1. From within a Content Area, click on Build Content, then select Item

2. Name the Item3. Add desired text into the Text box4. OPTIONAL: Under the Attachments

section, you may attach learning materials, such as: Powerpoint and PDF documents from your computer

5. Click Submit

CREATE ASSIGNMENT

The Assignment tool allows users to submit assignments online.

1. From within a Content Area, click on Assessments, then select Assignment

2. Name the Assignment3. Add instructions for your assignment4. OPTIONAL: Attach any assignment file5. Add a due date for your assignment6. Add points possible7. OPTIONAL: Add a rubric8. Click Submit

CREATE DISCUSSION

BOARDThe Discussion Board tool that allows instructors and students to communicate with each other.• From within a Content Area, click Tools and

choose Discussion Board• Select Create New Forum• Name the forum• Add any text in the description box• Review the Forum Settings• Viewing Thread/Replies• Grade• Create and Edit• Additional Options

• Click Submit• Select a Discussion Board Forum• Add the same instructions as in the forum

description, in the Link Information box• Click Submit

ACTIVITY: CONTENT

In the Modules Example template you uploaded into your course, update the following in the Modules content area:• Module overview statement• Module learning outcomes• Require materials and activities• Instructional materials• Assignments• Next Steps
