IMPORT DIFFERENT TYPES OF MEDIA TO IMOVIE
However, the program doesn't recognize all the files but limited to a few compatible formats. Here are some iMovie tips to outline how to import different types of media.
iMovie requires you to load media into the project so that you can further edit them. The files you import may come with different codec and formats.

PART 1: IMPORT VIDEO FILES TO IMOVIE
1. Import videos from tape-based camcorder
Step one: Connect camcorder to Mac
Step two: Set the Automatic/Manual switch

2. Import videos from memory-based camcorder
Step one: Connect camcorder to Mac
Step two: Import the video you want
Step three: Add your video to project
3. Import videos from existing movies

Step 1: Download YouTube videos easily
Install the Wondershare YouTube downloader. Find your favorite YouTube videos and play them and there are two methods to download the videos.
Method 1: Copy the url of the YouTube video and go to the Downloading window to click the Paste URL button.
Method 2: Click the Download button on the top right corner of the video
Step 2: Convert to a iMovie friendly format
Check the video files in the Downloaded library and click Convert button on the right. Select MOV or MP4 as the output format in the popped up window. Click OK.
Your YouTube video will then be converted to an iMovie-friendly format in a short time. Then find where the converted YouTube files are stored and open iMovie, select File > Import > Movies to import the files.
