HPC IB Parent Meeting

The IB Diploma Programme

IB offers a Primary Years Programme, a Middle Years Programme and a Diploma Programme. The Diploma Programme begins in the junior year.

The DP curriculum is not complete until the end of the senior year.

Depending on the course, students may sit for exams in the spring of their junior year, but the majority of the exams will be given in the spring of their senior year.

Diploma Programme Requirements

•Candidates must take one course in each of the six groups. •Three of the courses must be at a Higher Level (240 hours over two years). •Three of the courses must be at a Standard Level (150 hours).

How do I earn that IB Diploma?

1. Must meet all CAS requirements.

2. Must earn 24 points (out of 45)

3. A candidate cannot score an N on TOK, EE or Gr 1-6 subj

4. A candidate cannot score an E on TOK or EE

5. A candidate cannot score a 1 on any contributing subject

6. A candidate cannot score 2 more than twice (HL or SL)

7. A candidate cannot score 3 more than three times (HL or SL)

8. Candidates must score at least 12 points from HL subjects (for those taking four HL’s, contributing scores will come from the highest three)

9. Candidates must score at least 9 points from SL subjects (candidates who register for two SL’s must gain at least 5 points at that level

Certificate Requirements Students can take individual IB courses

without committing to the Diploma Programme of study. Up to three. Must meet prerequisites.

To get credit for the course, the student must complete all required internal assessments.

Students must score a level 4 or higher to receive a certificate. (scaled 1-7)
