Newsletter
Winter
Patron HRH The Duchess of Kent
Happy New Year Everyone. Welcome to 2016.
In this newsletter we have some catching up to do from the final events of 2015 and of course
details of up and coming events in 2016.
As always January is membership renewal time. You can find a copy of the membership
details with a form to print and send to us at the rear of the newsletter. Alternatively, download
a form from our website. The membership fee remains at just £5.00! Yes £5.00 for the whole
year, but that £5.00 goes a long way, helping to support members, The Wig Bank, Breast
Awareness Campaign, Buddleia Therapies and of course our legendary Pink Pamper Day.
The Annual General Meeting this year was held once again at The Village Hotel, Hull on
Saturday 23rd January.
This year sees a big change at HER Breast Friends, with a newly elected Chairman of the
Charity, Eric Jones and Vice Chair Joanne Mennell.
Although De Hempstock stood down as Chairman and Linzi Scaling stood down as Vice Chair
they both remain members of the Board of Trustees along with the following who were
re-appointed to serve a further term of one year on the Board of Trustees:
Pam Trays (Vice Chairman) Janet Lonsdale (Treasurer), along with Jan Jones, Eileen O’Grady,
and Mona Crosier. Members in attendance voted in Annmarie Bennett as a Trustee to replace
Janice Connor who stood down at the AGM. Grateful thanks were recorded to Janice for her
service to the Charity along with everyones very best wishes for the future.
Janice stated that although stepping down as a Trustee she wished to remain an active
volunteer within the Charity.
We send Eric, Joanne and all the Trustees our best wishes and support as they continue to
move the Charity forward.
If you were unable to attend the meeting and would like to receive a copy of the Annual Report /
Statement of Accounts, please contact the office.
Thank you to everyone who brought along a Tombola prize for use in this years events.
If you have any unwanted gifts taking up space in your drawers and cupboards, be assured they
will be put to very good use if you donate them to us.

Once again our a special thank you goes to the nurses and reception staff at the Breast Care Clinic, Castle Hill Hospital. During 2015 they have raised £658 in the sale of our merchandise.
A massive thank you for their continued support
Thank you
We had a surprise visitor to our
Volunteers lunch in December.
Andy Lanczak from the company Tama
came and presented a cheque for £1000
to HER Breast Friends.
Tama make the wrapping for hay bales
and in 2015 they made some special
wrapping in pink. Any company that
purchased the colour, a donation was made to the charity fund.
The pink wrapping proved so popular 23 local charities benefited from their generosity.
Andy loved his tour of our premises and was in awe of what we have to offer local people
affected by breast cancer. And was doubly pleased to make the presentation when he saw all
the home made cakes and savouries!!
Goodmanham Arms held an auction and
raised £650 for HER Breast Friends.
Thank you to everyone involved for your
continued support.
Local company McBrides
once again held a fund
raising day in aid of HER
Breast Friends and raised
a fabulous £195.
Charity Manager Jayne Beck with member and new
Trustee Annmarie Bennett presented a cheque for
£771 to Jan Jones and De Hempstock at the 10th
anniversary monthly meeting at Sutton Methodist
Church Hall.
Jayne and Annmarie completed 7 challenges in
2015 , which included 2x5k 1x8k 2x10k runs,
The Leeds Pretty Mudder and The Great North Run
raising funds for Sproatley Play Group, Special Stars
Foundation, Sproatley Juniors and HER Breast
Friends. Well done ladies, what will they do this
year?!
Margaret Wharf
and friends
helped the
environment and
donated £5.50 in
lieu of Christmas
cards
Shaun Foulds donated £44 from his Tai Chi
class and popped into our suite of rooms with
Her Breast Friends and class member Christine
where he was shown around the premises and
what we can offer local people affected by
breast cancer thanks to donations such as his.
Of course the kettle was on with biscuits and
cake available too!
HER Breast Friends
Butterfly Ball
A visit from the Hull Daily Mail prior to the event show cased
the hard work of our volunteers Alyson Aitken and Sheila
Shakesby in obtaining some amazing raffle prizes for our
Grand Draw which took place at our first Butterfly Ball in
November. The main prize of which was a full make over
courtesy of Hull Daily Mail. The winner of the Grand Draw
was D. Harris and will be featured in the February addition of
Femail.
Our first Butterfly Ball in November was a huge
success.
The beautifully decorated Kingston Suite at the KC
Stadium was the result of the hard work by Trustee
Joanne Mennell .
Joanne and her volunteers provided a fantastic
night with a delicious three course meal,
entertainment and an auction with auctioneer
Caroline Hawley helping to raise valuable funds for
HER Breast Friends.
The drawing of our Grand Raffle was eagerly
awaited, and the nights proceedings brought to a
rapturous end by local group Contraband who kept
everyone singing and dancing until the early hours.
2015 Trustees courtesy of The Journal
A very special monthly meeting was held on Saturday 14th November at Sutton Methodist
Church Hall - Back to where it all began.
This was a vey emotional meeting for many people especially our founder Jan Jones.
Quote ‘’ It was an emotional return to Sutton for us all after so many years and I hadn't realised just how
many memories would come flooding back. It was great to see newer and returning
members exchanging stories about the Charity then and now, and I know lots of special
moments from the past were shared all over again. We've all come a long way since those
early days but the founding values of HER Breast Friends are still as true today as they
were then, and everyone can be sure of a warm welcome whether they are a new
member, or one returning after time away and we saw this many times during that very
special day in Sutton."
For member Sue Clarke a re-enactment of her first contact with
HER Breast Friends was a fun but again emotional time. 10 years
ago Sue stood outside the door of the hall when it was opened by
Eric Jones who immediately invited her in for a cup of tea. Sue
states she hesitantly went through the door but has never looked
back since, making new friends and finding a strong and confident
person within her that she didn't know existed ..
For more on Sue’s story check out her video on our website
Sue also presented a cheques for £296 to
Jan Jones and De Hempstock from her
sponsored head shave earlier in the year.
Our final event of the HER Breast Friends 10 year celebrations was the Christmas Party Disco
Night in December..
Arranged by volunteers Janice Purchon and Sue Clarke the event took place at The Inglemire
Club, Hull. This was a free night for members and their guests with a wonderful buffet, a raffle
and dancing.
A thoroughly enjoyable night was had by everyone who attended and a great way to finish off a
very busy year.
A visit by our newest supporter
Mum Katie was one of our
Fashion Show models and was
actually pregnant at the time, she
therefore had a few more dress
changes from rehearsals to
catwalk than most!
Congratulations Katie and Mike
and a big welcome to Daniel x
A celebration of
any kind would
not be the same
without cake!
Here at HER
Breast Friends
we know all about
cake especially
the home made
variety. Yum
Congratulations HER Breast
Friends Happy 10th birthday
Christmas with Friends
Our Christmas with Friends event held at Coletta & Tyson Garden Centre Dunswell was once
again a fun filled weekend. A huge thank you to all our members, family and friends that
helped to put the fun into fundraising and a smile on shoppers faces. Dressed as Elves,
Reindeer, Mother Christmas, Snowmen and other colourful jolly characters all helped to raise a
fantastic £1319.83 for HER Breast Friends.
The Christmas spirit really came to life especially with all the wonderful cakes and savouries
lovingly baked for our cake stall and the unique gifts made for our craft stall which without the
tremendous help and time donated by volunteers and members it wouldn’t have been possible.
Thank you to KCFM for raising the profile of the Charity on your show that day and to special
guests Elsa and Anna from Frozen who posed for photographs and donated their takings to
HER Breast Friends.
A massive thank you to Coletta & Tyson Manager Gill Hailstone and all the staff for their
continued support and also to all the customers for their generosity — we really could not do it
without you.

Beverley Minster looked spectacular with approx. 80 decorated Christmas
trees on display as part of the Christmas Tree Festival.
Thanks to the hard work of the HER Breast Friends craft club and everyone
who dropped into the Charity and gave a hand, our tree looked fabulous.
Following the Charity theme for the year ‘From caterpillars to Butterflies’ the
tree was adorned with sparkly butterflies commemorating 10 years of being in
the community supporting local people affected by breast cancer. With pride of
place at the top of the tree, a portrait of our Patron HRH The Duchess of Kent.
Thank you to everyone who attended and voted for
HER Breast Friends, we did not win this year but hope
you enjoyed the festival.
