It has been brought to my attention that Lalamilo Deep Well -"B" of the above subject project has shown a drop in its capacity estimated between 5% and 6% for this 1000-gpm pump. Recently while cleaning the interior of the 100,OOO-gallon head tank, debris, in fairly large amounts, estimated at roughly three full buckets were removed. These debris appear to be abrasive solid particles being pumped out of the well. Enclosed are samples found-in the above tank.
While this project has completed its mandatory one-year warranty period, we would appreciate any assistance in this matter since it appears to have similar problems as Lalamilo Well "C."
If you have any questions, feel free to call on Mr. Kenneth Ikemori of my staff at 961-3723.

MEMORANDUM FOR THE RECORD
FROM: Ed Sakoda
SUBJECT: Water Level Measurement - Lalamilo A & B
On January 14 and 15, 1980, Mitch and I traveled to Lalamilo wells A and B to take water level measurements.
On Monday, January 14, we sounded well B with DOWALDls electric sounding reel. We took two soundings and had the same results. The uncorrected counter reading was 1129.3 ft. depth to water @ 2:00 p.m. We then tried to take a sounding at well A but couldnlt because the Stevens recorder was still in operation.
On Tuesday, January 15, Hideo Gushiken, of USGS, and Albert Ozaki helped us with the sounding. We measured well B again and got 1129.9 as the uncorrected counter reading. We then went to well A, removed the Stevens recorder and sounded the hole. The uncorrected counter reading was 1218.5.

MEMORANDUM FOR THE RECORD
FROM: Daniel Lum
SUBJECT: Selection of Well Site, Lalamilo Wells "B" and "C"
At this time, it is held that the Lalamilo ground water aquifer is of basal, rather than high-level occurrence. Therefore, the location of Lalamilo Wells "B" and "c" can be located a reasonably small distanoe makai of existing Well "A".
Furthermore, the preliminary estimate of ground water flux at Lalamilo is 6 to 8 ± mgd per coastal mile. Of this amount, 1/2 to 2/3 is arbitrarily assumed to be developable, or, say, 3 to 5 mgd of ground water can be developed per coastal mile.
Thus, the two 1 mgd wells recently oontracted to be drilled at Lalamilo feasibly, may be located at Well Site liB" shown on the attached location map, subjeot to a review of the results to be obtained from Well "B". There is merit, however, in drilling the third well at Well Site "e" (shown on the location map) to establish very important ground water information; namely, the direction of ground water flux, the ground water gradient, and the pumping test characteristics of the aquifer-by having well-triangulated group of three wells.
In swmaary, the recommended location of the first well to be drilled is Site "B" and depending upon satisfactory results from Site "B" and from the pwnping test analyses, utilizing Well "A" as an observation point, the reconunended location of the second well to be drilled is Well "C".
