TOGETHER!

When Libraries and City

Space come together –

what kind of activities, do

we present?

Jakob Guillois Lærkes

Right outside Gladsaxe

Main Library, we have

created a playground

inspired by Nordic childrens

literature.

..which provides new

opportunites to learn

while playing

The themed playground

introduces children to literary

worlds and characters that

sparks their curiosity.

Children can meet

book titles, entire

literary universes,

read quotes from

stories – that is play

with literature

The playground is both

a tool and a venue to

create different activities

that supports early literacy

together with children,

families, daycares,

institutions and

preschools.

The idea is to explore

literature physically while

playing and to bring

literacy into public space

The e-wall invite

children to exercise

and learn while

playing

We create educational

material together with

local schools to be used

in connection with the e-

wall.

This is a perfect tool to

make the literature of the

playground alive and

accessible for the

children.

Gladsaxe has a

strategy on early

effort, which we

combine with early

literacy projects

`My story´ is a co-project

between children, parents,

local cultural institutions,

daycares and schools in an

effort to make a difference for

the childs´ early literacy

The playground takes

center stage for `My

story´ to unfold – to

play, learn, experience

and explore literary

worlds and the wonder

of reading

We create different

educational activities, where

children are encouraged to

use the literary worlds,

characters or book titles in

a new and playful context

That can be poems,

rimes, plays, stories or

literary games that

unfolds while the child

play, jump or moves

through the literary

worlds..

It is key to develop

learning activities that

are self-explainable

and easy for the

visitors to take part

in..

Sometimes we host

big events, concerts,

theater or make

creative spaces..

…But most of the time, we

invite families, daycares or

schools to add their own

activities and content to

the garden..

– by hosting children’s

birthdays, do geocatching

or go treasure hunting.

To answer the question of

what kind of activities, we

present in public space

we are still learning, testing

and playing - together with

our visitors..
