1. RAPID CHANGES LED PEOPLE TO START REFORMING SOCIETY (MAKING IT BETTER)

2. MENTALLY ILL AND PRISON REFORM:

started by Dorthea Dix Dorthea Dix who was concerned about the terrible conditions for the mentally ill in prisons. Tried to get special facilities for the mentally ill, lighter sentences for child offenders, education for criminals, improve overcrowding and conditions.

3. TEMPERANCE:

many thought alcoholalcohol was the root of all evil. Encouraged people not to drink hard liquor - only a little beer or wine. Major goal soon became banning the sale of alcohol altogether.

4. WOMEN’S RIGHTS MOVEMENT: many abolitionistsabolitionists were also for women’s rights (ex: Douglass and Truth) Began with the Seneca Falls Convention Seneca Falls Convention (July 19, 1848 – Seneca Falls, NY), first public women’s rights meeting in the US. Led by Elizabeth Cady Stanton, Lucretia Mott, Lucy Stone, and Susan B. Anthony.
