• Main results.

Objectives

• To implement measures to improve energy efficiency in PL;

• To encourage an efficient and adequate lighting to roads;

• To promote a balance between lighting levels required and the maximum • To promote a balance between lighting levels required and the maximum

savings;

• To reduce electricity consumption and associated CO2 emissions;

• To reduce energy costs for PL installations;

• To promote and disseminate a good environmental practice.

Methodology for ILUPub

I. Identification and Accounting for Consumption an d Costs

Characterization :

• Approximately

35,000 Points of 35,000 Points of

Light;

• 500 transformer

stations;

First Results

Importance to the next stage :

• Database with the characteristics of public lighting;

• Tool for the management of public lighting;

• Simplification of local studies :

• Lighting needs vs maximum possible reduction;

• Implementation of measures in individual character (point of light).

Methodology for ILUPub

III. Identification of measures to be implemented

• Survey of the needs of Municipalities;

• Identify the best solution to adopt :• Identify the best solution to adopt :

• Compilation and analysis of collected data;

• Study of technical and economic feasibility;

• Recommendations.

Implementation of Measures

Type of Eligible Measures :

• Installation of energy efficient equipments (e.g.lamps, luminaires)

• Installing the control systems/reduction of luminous flux (e.g. electronic ballasts)

• Installation of control and/or monitoring systems (e.g. astronomical clocks)

Methodology:

• Identification of facilities (locals);

• Characterization of existing equipment;

Implementation of measures - more efficient luminaires

• Characterization of existing equipment;

• Scaling the best solution taking into account the ideal lighting levels for each location;

• Preparation of feasibility studies;

• Implementation on the ground.

Implementation of measures - more efficient luminaires

Methodology:

• PL installation in Alter do Chão – 65 luminaires

• Phase 1 (2009): Installation of 62 LED luminaires in four facilities (streets) of 4 Municipalities (Castelo de Vide, Portalegre and Marvão Sousel)

• Phase 2 (2014): Installation of 683 More Efficient luminaires on public roads(street lighting) in 9 municipalities (Alter do Chão, Avis, Castelo de Vide,

Implementation of measures - more efficient luminaires

(street lighting) in 9 municipalities (Alter do Chão, Avis, Castelo de Vide, Elvas, Fronteira, Marvão, Monforte, Portalegre and Nisa)

 Investment: € 442,800 (co-financed at 85%)

 Minimum annual reductions :

• Consumption : 40% (170.000 kWh)

• Cost: 27.000 €

• Pay-back: 2,5 anos

• Articulation with the EDP

(Portuguese Energy Utility);

• Actual measurements at the

beginning and end of each

PL circuit line:

• Flow;

• Voltage drop.

• Preparation of technical and economic feasibility studies for each

installation;

• Identification of the best solution :
