The use of information systems for the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights and the United Nations Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, 2012 to 2013 

I was one of the authors of the recent revision of ISO/IEC Guide 71:2014 Guide for addressing accessibility in standards, including leading the task force on process.  

My recent research has included;

People with Disabilites

20% of the UK population has some form of disability. 3.5% have innate disabilities, caused by genetic factors like lack of sight, speech or hearing, or neurological difficulties such as dyslexia or autism.

The majority of disabilities are acquired as a result of ageing or accident and could happen to anyone.

More than 40% of disabilities are acquired during working life.

Unconscious bias concerning people with disabilities – a BCS briefing note

IT can play a major role in alleviating the effects of disability.

Unconscious bias concerning people with disability is stronger than that measured for gender and ethnic diversity. 3.9% of sample populations report a very strong bias against

people with disability, compared with 0 reporting a very strong bias against women and 0.9% against ethnic differences.

67% of the British public feel uncomfortable talking to people with disability

36% believe disabled people are not as productive as everybody else.
