Instructions for making a Non-Fiction Book

Project Description: This non-fiction template isa great way to reinforce learning the features of

anon-fiction book.

Materials: 2 file folders per student, ribbon, non-fiction feature find and non-fiction templates.

Steps to making the book

Lay two file folders on top of each other,cut 3 inch slits into the top and bottomoff each file folder. Use ribbon to bind book together.

Supply your students with many non-fiction books and use the non-fiction feature find to introduce or review the common features of non-fiction. Have students pick a topic, research and write their very own non-fiction book!

Feature Description Example

Label Labels help the reader identify a picture or a photograph and its parts.

Photograph Photographs help the reader understand exactly what something looks like.

Diagram/illustration

Helps the reader understand what something looks like in more details.

Caption Captions help the reader better understand a picture or photograph.

Cutaways Cutaways help the reader understand something by looking at it from the inside.

Types of Font Fonts help the reader by signaling, "Look at me! I'm important!"

Close-up Close-ups help the reader see details in something small.

Table of Contents

Table of Contents helps the reader find key topics in the book in the order that they come.

Glossary Glossary helps the reader understand key words that are in the text.
