Connections

Dial-up Connections: (analog line) Modem: internal: chapter

external: more expensive modems are rated by their speed, using measurement called bits per second (bps)

High Speed Connection: (digital line) Cable Modem – by cable television provider Digital Subscriber Line: ADSL (Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line)

It is called because it sends and receives data at different speed.ADSL – sends and receives data at different speed through a high-speed digital phone line provided by the local telephone.

It is called "asymmetric" because download speeds to the subscriber are faster than upload speeds from the subscriber.

(During her “art class”, the teacher asks students to find some information about Van Gogh, and his paintings. After lunch, she goes online to search for pictures and information. Mina searches several Websites and is able to download and print some pictures. She decides to cut, and paste, some of the information to her word processor for further review.
