• Shield Volcano • Built from layers of runny lava from multiple quiet eruptions

• Shallow, broad slope creating a flat, wide volcano

• Example – Name: Mauna Kea– Location: Hawaii

Effects of Volcanoes

• Composite Volcano • Alternates between quiet and violent eruptions

• Creates alternating layers of lava and ash debris (tephra)

• Broad bases and steep sides (looks like regular mtn.)

• Example– Name: Mt. St. Helens– Location: Washington, USA

• Steep slopes but small in size

• Tephra, cinders, ash, pyroclastic rocks
