Project introduction

Because of low financial literacy in many countries

Suppose you had $100 in a savings account and the interest rate was 2 percent per year. After 5 years, how much do you think you would have in the account if you left the money to grow?

Imagine that the interest rate on your savings account was 1 percent per year and inflation was 2 percent per year. After 1 year, how much would you be able to buy with the money in this account?

True or false? Buying a company stock usually provides a safer return than a stock mutual fund.

Platform introduction

Financial education content Crowd-sourcing tools to work withand share knowledge Forecasting models to identifymarket trends and threats Personalized recommendation systems to support financial management according to the user’s profile Incentives to encourage the active participation and contribution of citizens (posting & rating of financial articles, creation and voting in polls, question & answer forums, etc.)

9/24#OpenFestBG @PROFIT_platform

Platform introduction

People learning: From the platform But also from each other

10/24#OpenFestBG @PROFIT_platform

Our motivation for “My Data”

To increase financial literacy (in general) -> Via the platform -> We need to attract users(both learners and contributors)

If users are empowered and trust the platform -> I.e. users have control over their data(in particular, among other things) -> They are more willing to contribute to the platform

11/24#OpenFestBG @PROFIT_platform

Our motivation for “My Data”

“My Data” concept (derived from “Open Data”) General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR)

12/24#OpenFestBG @PROFIT_platform

“My Data” concept

Parallel:

“anonymous” data (Open Data) should befreely available for use, reuse and redistributionby anyone

“data about me” (My Data) should befreely available for use, reuse and redistributionby me

Main inspiration (because we're Open Data enthusiasts):

Laura James’ blog post “Open Data & My Data” from 2013– https://blog.okfn.org/2013/02/22/open-data-my-data/

all the data

My Data Open Data

GDPR

General Data Protection Regulation(Regulation (EU) 2016/679):

Will it help?– hopefully more than “Cookie Law”

To some degree it already is:– “British courts may unlock secrets

of how Trump campaign profiled US voters”– https://www.theguardian.com/technology/2017/oct/01/cambridge-analytica-big-data-facebook-trump-voters

– (very imprecisely: US citizen asserting his rights via EU legislation in UK which is leaving EU ... - heavily twisted world, right? :)David Carroll

Wider scope

Based on “My Data” concept, GDPR, etc.: users are not just putting data into platforms(ours included), but can also see what platforms “know” about them, get a copy of that data, move (parts of) that data to other platforms and delete that data from platforms as they see fit.

being recognized by wider community of entrepreneurs, activists, academics, listed corporations, public agencies, and developers:

– MyData.org declaration (https://mydata.org/declaration/)

MyData.orgCC-BY-4.0

15/24#OpenFestBG @PROFIT_platform

“My Data” features

Current state: Ability to view all the datafrom and about the user (himself)which the platform contains= “View all the data” Ability to download all that datain machine readable form= “Download all the data”

(building blocks for overall scope)

16/24#OpenFestBG @PROFIT_platform

“My Data” features

Basic principles we follow: User can see all the data which is his/hers(entered by him/her into the platform)or about him/her (i.e. “observed”). User can not see personal data of other users.

17/24#OpenFestBG @PROFIT_platform

“My Data” features

Basic principles we follow, example: You posted a comment to my article -> your comment have to be in “your data” overview Comment alone, without context, has little value But article is mine Compromise: “your data” will includealso title of my article

– if the article is public, citing “fair use”

18/24#OpenFestBG @PROFIT_platform

“View all the data”

“View” is meantfor interactive work,i.e. giving you quick overviewbased on which you candecide on further actions.

19/24#OpenFestBG @PROFIT_platform

“View all the data”

In current platform prototype: User Profile User's Articles and Linked Articles Comments Events – notifications Messages Following users Content rating

20/24#OpenFestBG @PROFIT_platform

“Download all the data”

Download and store elsewhere: Just as backup on my computer Reuse: to import for examplejust my articlesto some other site etc.

21/24#OpenFestBG @PROFIT_platform

“Download all the data”

Machine readable (XML) But still also human readablewhen uncompressed and opened in the browser(XSL, CSS) same code under the hood:you get same data via”View” and “Download”

22/24#OpenFestBG @PROFIT_platform

“My Data” features

Future: Available also via REST API (with Token) Further tweaks Possible work on actual data portability

– Do you know of some other projects

with whom it makes sense

and are willing to work on that?
