About ICT
Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) works to keep College connected, support education and research goals, and enhance the student experience.
As well as delivering initiatives to support innovation and develop IT capability, we look after the IT systems and services that keep College running.

Getting connected in Halls of Residence
Most halls have telephones. Calls to College numbers and incoming calls are free. To make outgoing external calls, set up a pre-pay account: http://www.imperial.ac.uk/admin-services/ict/self-service/connect-communicate/telephones-mobile/telephones/halls-of-residence-calls/

WiFi access in halls and on campus
College halls have WiFi access in most areas. Alternatively, you can connect your computer to the wired network via a network cable - available from the ICT Service Desk. When you open your web browser you need to register to activate your internet connection.

Campus computers
• Assisted technology software like ClaroRead and MindView are available• All PCs are ‘frozen’ – Do not save work on C:\ drive
The Library provides lots of services including access to public PCs, see Library
There are around 3,000 PCs across College (Library, teaching rooms) for students to use

Saving your work: Home directory (H: drive)
Secure personal storage space on College’s server is allocated to every student.
• Automatically mapped on login as H:\• Backed up every night• Data is kept for 3 months• Contact the ICT Service desk to restore deleted files• Your H: drive quota is 4GB (UG) and 8GB (PG & Staff)

Saving your work: One Drive for Business
Within Office 365, OneDrive for Business offers Cloud storage. All students can use it to store 1TB (soon to be unlimited amount) of data files.
• For personal computers you can use a Microsoft provided client to synchronise the data between the cloud and your local storage (if using Windows). (N.B. This facility is NOT provided on campus computers.)

Printing
Printing is managed centrally through ICTprintservice all around the College
• Documents are sent to a common print queue, meaning that you can collect them from any touch card printer
• Use your College ID card for access to the printers• Costs set by each department (typically 3p for mono & 12p for colour)• Top up online or via money loaders in the Central Library

Software deals
A range of free and discounted software is available, including AntiVirus programs. Go to the Software Shop
Students can install Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, and more on up to five PCs and Macs, plus five tablets, including iPad. All work can be saved online in OneDrive for Business and accessed from any device.
The same software is available on College’s many campus computers.
