School Mission Statement

ICS equips students with the knowledge, skills and Christian character to serve and transform their communities while preparing them for tertiary education.

School Motto

Instruction for Life Commitment to Christ Service to the Community

The A in ESLR

Act as responsible members of the Global Community

Rationale of the MAD Project

Since we expect our graduates to serve and transform their communities, we expect them to be people who notice needs, and can make decisions about how to meet those needs. They are to be people who take initiative and are not merely passive.

Major World Issues Twenty major global issues and 20 years to

solve them. Most of these stem from the effects of Rapid

Population Growth and Rapid Growth in the World Economy.

Both these things put huge pressure on Global Systems.

If we do not solve them the impact will be huge. Already around the world people are suffering as a result but we don’t necessarily feel the effect yet.

Is caring for the poor Biblical?

The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. (Luke 4:18)

The first Christians were known for how they loved one another because they shared their processions (Act 4:32-35)

References to the Poor in the Bible

There are references to poverty throughout the Bible.

One in 7 verses in Luke talk about money Jesus talked about money more than

anything else except the Kingdom of God Luke 7:22 Matt 25:31 – 46 Amos 5:18 -24 Mark 10:17 - 23

Not all Poverty is created equal

Relief Rehabilitation Development

How to spell ‘effective relief’

S-e-l-d-o-m I-m-m-e-d-i-a-t-e T-e-m-p-o-r-a-r-y

Doing STM without doing Long Term Harm

In 2006 American Christians alone spent $1.6 billion sending 2.2 million people on short term mission.

If not done properly it can hurt the poor and those going.

There is also no evidence of a significant increase in Mission giving or people going on long term mission as a result of this increased spending.

Fulfilling the Great Commission in our Jerusalem (HK) Meeting the needs in our immediate community Meeting need in Hong Kong Life beyond the bake sale. Get personally

involved and Make a Difference. Each of us has a personal responsibility as

humans. This is not something just for Christians.

Service brings fulfillment and personal satisfaction as well as meeting the needs of others
