• Internet connection speeds:Tallinn University of Technology – 10 Gbit/sLibrary – 100 Mbit/s (router is the bottleneck)

• Local area network in library:Mixed gigabit and fast ethernet network,Cat6 copper and fiber-optic cabling,Nortel 4550T, 4548GT network switches (and a few other models)

Wi-Fi

The entire building has access to public Wi-Fi.There are four Wi-Fi access points on every floor, which provides a more or less optimal signal strength throughout the building. Wi-Fi is managed by the University’s IT department, not the library’s.

• Created in 2000.

• Student registers in the system with matriklenumber and ID number

• Everyone gets individual questions to answer

• A librarian will check the answers and grade the results

• When the student logs in again, they will see the results

For easier inventory we procured handheld terminals Honeywell Dolphin 9900 and software from the company ID Balti AS.

• Advantages over PCs: easier to manage, silent work (important in a library), smaller
