• Campania region offers a wide range of hiking trails famous for their naturalistic worth and for breathtaking views on their path.
• Here is a short selection of some of them
We want to start with our surroundings and show the beautiful path that from the Naturalistic Oasis of Monte
Nuovo leads to Lake Avernus
Monte Nuovo, the youngest volcano of Phlegrean Fields, was formed in a few days in September 1538. The violent eruption changed the entire structure of the surrounding area, causing the destruction of the village of Tripergole and reducing the size of Lake Lucrino nearby
from the top of its crater (134 meters), it is possible to enjoy a magnificent view over the Phlegraean Fields
then a short downhill path leads to the shore of Lake Avernus
The Avernus is a volcanic lake, whose origins date back to about 4000 years ago. Entrance to the kingdom of the
underworld and then military port in Roman times
Its history is full of changing fortunes
Around the lake, the presence of several archaeological sites, including the ruins of the so-called Temple of Apollo, impressive building which used thermal springs and fumaroles that came up from the banks of the lake
Vesuvius is the volcano responsible for covering the ancient cities of Pompeii and Ercolano with a blanket
of ash in 79 A.D. Below the ash they were preserved throughout the
centuries, until their re-discovery in the 1700s
This isn’t a long or particularly hard hike, but certainly interesting and worthwhile. Starting from
the Observatory, It takes about 20 minutes to reach the rim of the crater ( 1281 mt)
The hike is quite steep in the beginning and then becomes more gradual toward
the top.The trail surface is mostly wide and of pumice/ash. It’s about 1 mile.
Walking around the crater we’ll see that there is no lava but a little steam. The view out to the Bay of
Naples, when clear, it is spectacular.
The Path of the Gods is the most famous hike in Campania. It crosses the Amalfi Coast, between the
villages of Bomerano and Nocelle
It is especially loved for its magnificent coastal views that can be enjoyed along the way, the charm of the places glimpsed but especially because this ancient footpath seems to be suspended in the air
between the sky and the sea of Sorrento Coast
(average altitude 500 meters)
• The Path of the Gods is the most famous hike in Campania. It crosses the Amalfi Coast, between the villages of Bomerano and Nocelle
Today the path is still used by farmers, woodsmen and shepherds, as it touches old vineyards clung to the mountain: the kind of grape cultivated in the
area is called “Ped'e Palomma"
The Path of Gods crosses, halfway up the hill, some of the most spectacular and wild gorges of the
Amalfi Coast.
Once reached the small villages of Nocelle, and Montepertuso, the path plunges along an
ancient paved alley, it is worth it: we will have the chance to experience one more
emotion to the view of the village of Positano
