BE THE CHANGE

Our members never cease to amaze us… Each year, The

Gateway Family YMCA-Rahway Branch, raises money through various

avenues including staff contributions, member contributions, and

special events to support our Annual Campaign. Our Annual Campaign

provides 100% support to our financial assistance program. We are

happy to say that in 2015, our Branch raised $27,500 to support our

Annual Campaign and awarded over $73,500 in financial assistance

towards memberships and programs here at our Branch.

In November, our Branch hosted the Express to Success event

at the Rail House. During the early stages of planning, we were

contacted by a group of members, now infamously known as the Aqua

Six. After being inspired by the story of a guest who had been

attending their aquatics fitness class and in need of financial support

to continue attending, this group of members rallied. They made it

their mission to ensure our Express to Success event was successful,

so that their new friend, and others in our community, could receive

support to participate in all of the great programs and services we

have to offer.

For weeks the Aqua Six selflessly pounded the pavement, going

door to door, soliciting donations from local businesses and others, to

support our raffles taking place on the evening of the Express to

Success event. In addition to soliciting donations, they sold numerous

tickets, and also increased the awareness of the public about the

importance of the Y in our community.

With over 60 people in attendance and 90 tickets sold, this

single event raised over $900.00 for our Annual Campaign. While the

event itself was successful, the impact it had was even greater. Not

only did we raise money for our Annual Campaign, a group of members

became empowered, and new friendships and partnerships were made.

So, to kick off our 2016 series of member stories, we would be remiss

if we did not start off by recognizing this selfless group of members

known as the Aqua Six.
