Sensor motor Stage

(birth to about 2 years)

•Explore the world through senses and motor activity

•Perception, cause and effect, follow things with eyes

Preoperational Stage (2 to about 7 years old)

• Greater speech abilities

• Numerical abilities

• Still fairly egocentric

Concrete Operational Stage (7 to about 11)

• Increase in abstract reasoning

• Children can do conservation tasks

Formal Operations Stage (12 to about 15 years old)

• Children can form hypotheses and reason scientifically

• Can show results of abstract thinking in the form of symbolic materials
