Exhibition Ai Weiwei. Maybe, Maybe NotTill March 3
Born in Beijing in 1957, Ai Weiwei is an artist and an activist. The works in this exhibition cover decades of creative activity. Some are spectacular, others provocative, others still surprisingly delicate. Yet bubbling beneath their attractive surface is a call to each and every one of us to be informed members of civic society, to maintain a vigilant and critical state of mind, to cast doubt, to take nothing for granted. In this age of tectonic shifts in the geopolitical arena, Ai Weiwei’s questions may be more relevant than ever: Is what we are told true? Is what we see real? Maybe, maybe not….Israel Museum
Exhibition Metabolism: Eastern and Arab Identity in Young and Contemporary DesignTill April 7
A selection of works by young designers who address the cultural and aesthetic reciprocal relationship between east and west, Arabs and Jews, Israel and Europe, the Middle East and Israel, and Arabic and Hebrew. The exhibits convey the influence of Arabic ornamentation, Arabic lettering and Arabic calligraphy. The artists offer a diverse range of approaches, taking in body decorating, the home and family, the living environment, origin, nation and nationality. Some of the works attempt to provide space for traditions pushed to the fringes by the Israeli melting pot, and some pose the question of how Israel would like if it were dominated by a different ethos.Museum of Islamic Art, Jerusalem

Sabbath of LightApril 1 According to Christian belief, in the last week of his life, Jesus visited Jerusalem. Every year, devout Christians reconstruct his story that week - the climax culminating with Easter. The week before Easter was called the great (and solemn) week: on Friday, Jesus was crucified, dead, and buried, and on Sunday, upon visiting his grave, it was found empty. The New Testament says that Jesus was resurrected. In preparation for the ceremony, thousands from all over the world gather in the Holy Sepulcher, holding a 33-candelabra (for 33 years of his life). A symbolic light is passed on to the believers according to Greek Orthodox legacy.
