This time of year is abundant ingrowth and change. The seniors atWolf Creek Online Charter Schoolexperienced one big change by con-cluding their high school educationlast Friday, June 5, 2015. Familiesand friends filled the auditorium andexcitement was high as the seniorsprepared to mark a milestone intheir education. As the “Pomp andCircumstance March” played theseniors walked into the auditoriumwearing the traditional cap andgown along with bright smiles. The Chisago Lakes VFW Post
#272 raised the flags during the“Star Spangled Banner,” and thecommencement ceremony began.Director of the Charter School, TracyQuarnstrom, welcomed those pres-ent and thanked everyone whohelped make this moment possiblefor each and every student. Quarn-strom introduced the senior speaker,
Nathan Corcoran, who delivered anexcellent speech entitled, “WhatWolf Creek Means to Me.” Nathanbelieves that it is crucial for studentsto have a choice in where they gettheir education and it should fit thestudent’s personality and learningstyle. Attending Wolf Creek OnlineHigh School gave him the opportu-nity to earn his diploma outside of atraditional school setting. He saysthat the large number of studentsand classroom sizes in a traditionalschool can be detrimental to a stu-dent’s mental health. His speechconveyed that students can experi-ence social anxiety, depression, andworry about fitting in and he didn’texperience that at Wolf Creek. Hesaid Wolf Creek is friendly and heenjoyed all the smiling faces thatgreeted him when he arrived oncampus. He knew it was the rightschool for him and felt it was a
school he could be successful at.Nathan says that having the optionto choose his school was a lifesaverand he didn’t know where he’d bewithout Wolf Creek. He thenthanked the staff for helping himachieve his dream of completing hishigh school education. The ceremony continued with per-
formances by Natalie and SydneyWelsch singing “Every Moment,” byJoy Williams and “Time of Your Life,”by Green Day. The superb perform-ances helped create a memorableevening for students and familiesalike. The ceremony also took onspecial meaning when each WolfCreek staff member took turns shar-ing words of wisdom to the studentsthrough a variety of “I Believe” state-ments. Two recipients were awarded
scholarships during the evening toassist them in reaching their higher
educational goals. Sean Miller, col-lege and careers coordinator at WolfCreek, awarded this year’s AlumniScholarship to Michael Heinen. TheSchool Board Chair, Jeff Vitali, hadthe honor of awarding Megan John-son with the Chisago Lakes LionsScholarship. The evening celebration culmi-
nated in the presentation of diplo-mas as each student was called onstage. Upon their approach to thestage, staff members SherylPalmquist and Julie Trombley readpersonal accounts of each student’sdreams and aspirations, post-sec-ondary plans, favorite songs andquotes, and favorite memories ofWolf Creek. Each graduate wascongratulated by board membersand staff as they were presentedwith their diploma and a white rose. The 2015 graduates ended theirhigh school careers amongst tears,
cheers, hugs and joy as they cele-brated their accomplishments withan evening they will remember forthe rest of their lives. Following theceremony, family and friendsgreeted the graduates and shared intheir excitement as a slideshow por-traying pictures of the graduates
played in the background, recappingtheir Wolf Creek journey. The Wolf Creek staff and school
board would like to congratulate theclass of 2015 and wish all the grad-uates much success in their futureendeavors and a lifetime of learningand happiness.
