June 3, 2018– Corpus Christi Today, as we celebrate the Feast of the Most Holy
Body and Blood of Christ, we are reminded that the Mass
or the Holy Eucharist should be prayed with the heart. It
should not be rushed. Love is not rushed. Nor is the Mass
just a show. Without the heart, without love, the Mass can
end up as a dry function, an entertaining performance, or
an empty act.
Beyond the devotion we have for the Real
Presence of Christ in Holy Communion, in the Blessed
Sacrament, and the celebration of Christ’s sacrifice in
every Mass, the Holy Eucharist should lead us to making
Christ present in our daily lives. Our love for the Holy
Eucharist, the Body and Blood of Jesus, must not only be
devotional, emotional, or sentimental. It must also be real
and actual. It should lead us to build up the Body of
Christ, the Church.
As we celebrate the Feast of the Most Holy Body
and Most Precious Blood of Jesus, let us renew our
commitment to pray the Mass, to celebrate the Mass from
the heart, and to build up the Body of Christ, the Church
by making Christ present wherever we are. Amen.
From Fr. Steve

Today’s feast day is the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ. This feast day represents the Church’s official act of homage and gratitude to Christ for instituting the Holy Eucharist, in which He gave the Church her greatest treasure. It celebrates the fact that the Body and Blood of Christ are truly present in the Eucharist! The Solemnity of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ feast day was previously observed as the feast of Corpus Christi, which is Latin for ‘Body of Christ’. (Corpus Christi is not just a city in South Texas!) On this day, we celebrate the Institution of the Holy Eucharist which Jesus gave to us on Holy Thursday. The Lord who has become our bread is thus showing us the way, is in fact our way, He leads us.
