• Publishing nation’s first standard on green building design-189.1P

• Developing standards on inspection and maintenance of buildings

• Load calculation standard to be published

Green Building Standard• Standard 189.1P is the

first such green building standard in the US

• Will serve as benchmark for sustainable green buildings – does not apply to all buildings

• Addresses energy, impact on the atmosphere, sustainable sites, water use, materials and resources, and IEQ

Increased Energy Efficiency• Minimum standards not enough for today’s

building environment• Signed agreement with U.S. Department

of Energy in support of higher energy efficiencies

• Goal: achieve zero site energy usage by 2030

Increased Energy Efficiency• Achieving net zero energy usage goal requires

increased stringency for Standard 90.1• Goal for the 2010 standard: achieve 30 percent

energy savings beyond the 2004 standard• Development of 2010 standard will follow

ASHRAE’s consensus writing standards process, which includes numerous opportunities for public review

Building Energy LabelingProvide motivation for reducing energy use in commercial buildings by expressing the energy

performance of buildings in a tangible way

New Tools for You• Free research reports

online• New owning & operating

database at www.ashrae.org/database
