Word Wall

We display “sight words” on our classroom word wall.

Please practice the high frequency sight words at home! (These words came home in the first Monday Memo folder.)

We integrate this phonics program in daily writing, literacy stations and weekly units.

Emergent readers are sent home Mondays to be returned on Thursday.

Wear tennis shoes everyday except Art day!!!(Recess is safer with tennis shoes)

Lunch Time

Join your child for lunch starting September 23rd!11:30 - 12:00 Arrive a minute or two early to sign-in in the office and receive a visitor’s badge.You are invited to sit at the special guest table.

Snack Time

Your child will bring his/her own snack each day.

Teachers will not have an extra stash of snacks to share if your child forgets.

Planners will provide daily communication between parents and teachers

It is imperative that the planners, folders, and readers come back on given day.

If you have not purchased your child’s planner, please do so this week (cost). We will start sending them home next week.

Report Cards

During your scheduled fall conference, you will receive your child’s report card (paper version).

Report cards for the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th quarters will be accessed online through the HAC.

Rubric FormatA rubric is: a scoring guide that seeks to evaluate a student’s performance based on a set of guidelines.

A rubric is NOT: a single numerical grade compared to a letter grade an average of several grades.

4 - consistently demonstrates exemplary understanding & application of skills, working independently after initial instruction

3 - demonstrates proficient understanding & applies skills independently by the end of the grading period

2 - demonstrates initial stages of understanding, applies skills with teacher guidance & reinforcement

1 - demonstrates a lack of understanding & re-teaching is required

Reading/Writing Rubric

Each quarter will “raise the bar” and apply rigor to Rdg./Wtg. expectations

DRA- Developmental Reading Assessment-

-MISD’s expectation Level 4 is easy to achieve with classroom instruction and home support (sight words)

Teacher Conferences

We will have a scheduled conference in the Fall. (Monday, Oct. 28th)

We are happy to conference upon request anytime through out the year.

Our conference period is Mon, Tue, Thurs, & Fri. @ 10:35-11:25.

Volunteering Opportunities

Thank YOU for your help!!!

Be sure to complete a background check online.

Parents will receive a “volunteer” badge to work in the classroom. Return to the office on your way out.

We are still in need of Lunch Room helpers.

Special Reminders

We are happy to help you pass out Birthday invitations to classmates. All students must be invited or at least all girls or all boys.Please label and baggie money you send with your child! (lunch, milk, cougar cave, special store opportunities)Traveling: send an email and call the VC office if your child’s going home plan changes. Make sure your child (and teacher) knows your rainy day plans.
