Know their location, boost your business. All you need is an IP address.

How IP targeting is impacting the way we reach our customers.

Let’s be honest: We live in the future.

There are these little metal rectangles that sit on our desks or fit in our pockets that can instantly

connect us within a fraction of a second to more information than we could ever possibly use.

That’s awesome.

(Even if we just use them to look at cat videos on YouTube.)

Not just for you, but for your business too.

It means we’re capable of marketing out businesses in new, innovative, really cool ways.

A perfect example: IP Targeting

IP-what?

Well, imagine you’re a marketer.

Your job is to spread your company’s message out, find the people who are interested, and do

business with them. Lots of business.

In the old days, the best way to do this was to create a one-size-fits-all message and send it out to

the world.

Cast a wide net and you’re sure to catch a few fish, right?

But there’s a BIG problem here.

You’ll waste a lot of money trying to market to people who simply aren’t interested.

The hard truth is that your message won’t be relevant to every single person it reaches.

But what if it could…?

That’s where IP targeting comes in!

It gives companies the ability to locate and connect with the audience that matters so they don’t

have to bother everyone else.

That means your company’s ad dollars become way more efficient… (You’re not wasting money

targeting people who simply won’t be interested.)

…and your customers are happier. They’re getting relevant content now.

Happier customers = better business. (It’s not rocket science!)

But how does it work?

An IP address is a unique address that your devices use to identify themselves and communicate

across the Internet.

It’s like a street address, but for the internet.

It’s nothing more than a few numbers: 174.16.254.99

But there are ways to figure out where that IP address is geographically located. (That’s IP

geolocation, baby!)

Isn’t that kind of creepy though?

Nope. The narrowest location possible (without being sketchy) is a ZIP code. And no other

personally identifiable info is stored with it. (So nobody knows where your doorstep is. Don’t

worry.)

But for businesses, knowing a customer’s ZIP code can be incredibly useful.

It allows them to deliver content that’s more personalized, tailored specifically for your target

audiences based on their locations. It makes the customer online experience better.

Notice how the major weather websites all load your local forecast automatically? That’s IP

targeting!

Notice how retailers can automatically show you the stores nearest to you? (You guessed it: IP

targeting!)

There are a million applications. They’re all awesome.

And it gets even cooler…

Good IP targeting services give you way more than just location info. Like a user’s connection type

and speed, mobile carrier, domain name, company name, home or business user, and more.

Wouldn’t your business benefit from having this much insight? (Hint: yes.)

There are a few companies that specialize in providing IP data… (Digital Element leads the

…and it’s ridiculously easy for your business to start using it…

…so it’s time!

We live in the future. Take advantage of it.
