KS1 SATS Meeting

Stanville Primary School

5th February 2020

SATs Testing for Key Stage 1 – Why?

The government thinks testing is a positive thing that informs everyone about how well children and schools are doing…

…of course not everyone agrees with this opinion!

All children will be tested in the following areas over the testing period (May):• English Reading – Paper 1 and Paper 2• Mathematics – Paper 1 Arithmetic • Mathematics - Paper 2 Reasoning

Children can also be tested in Spelling, Punctuation and Grammar!

In addition children will be measured in the following subjects also:• Teacher assessment – writing• Science – Teacher Assessment

• All pupils are required to complete all tests• The papers include a greater depth of knowledge• Pupils awarded a scaled score out of 100

SATs Testing for Key Stage 1 – Now

SATs – benefits!

The curriculum allows for consolidation and depth of knowledgeLearning fewer things, but in a greater level of detail

SATs – but…

The level of expectation has been raised significantly compared to the old tests

SATs – When and how long?

• The tests will take place nationally during May 2019 – 4 weeks!• Tests will happen every day although children will be selected to work in small

groups rather than whole class • All scripts are marked on site• Results will be reported at a later date before the end of the academic year

(scaled score out of 100) and normally with the end of year report.
