Rescue flighton fishing tripA WEEK-long fishing trip offthe Cobourg Peninsula,160km northeast of Darwin,ended with a rescue flight fora Darwin man yesterday.

Five men, from Katherineand Darwin, made an emerg-ency dash to isolated VashonHead airstrip after one of themen fell just over a metrefrom their larger boat on to asmall tinny, suffering frac-tured ribs after landing onhis chest.

The men used a phone tocall for medical help just be-fore midday.

A CareFlight nurse landedat the remote airstrip to meetthe fishing party and takeover treatment of the man,aged 50.

He was flown to Royal Dar-win Hospital for treatment.

DARWIN’S historic firstround of the AustralianSupercross Championshiphas changed its name to theJosh Hill Show.

The US Supercross champ-ion will today be announcedas the star attraction at theSeptember 14-15 combinedsupercross-superbikesround at Hidden Valley.

Sports Minister Matt Con-lan said the Darwin motor-bike spectacular wouldmark 24-year-old Hill’s firstappearance in Australia.

‘‘When it comes to super-ross riders around theworld, Josh Hill is about as

big as they come,’’ Mr Con-lan said. ‘‘So we’re absol-utely thrilled he’ll be makinghis Australian debut righthere in Darwin.

‘‘Josh is signed to CareyHart’s team — the husbandof pop megastar Pink — who

happen to be one of the big-gest teams in America.’’

Event promoter and Inter-national EntertainmentGroup director YarriveKonsky said that Hill’s in-clusion in the Darwinsupercross round was‘‘incredibly huge’’.

‘‘We’re delighted to be ableto bring Josh to Darwin andHidden Valley,’’ Mr Konskytold the NT News.

‘‘Josh had a bad crash twoyears ago which made globalheadlines and there werefears he would never raceagain. But he’s back betterthan ever and excited to becoming to Australia for thefirst time, where Darwin willbe his very first stop.

‘‘This guy is a huge namein supercross and his ap-pearance will make thechampionships at HiddenValley a world-class event.’’

Hidden Valley is hosting aQBE Australian SuperbikeChampionships (ASBK) andAustralian SupercrossChampionship round.

‘‘The double program inDarwin will be a great oppor-tunity for Territorians,visitors and rev heads toget down to Hidden Valleyand see not one but two dif-ferent types of motorcyclesports at the one venue,’’ MrConlan said.

‘‘It will be a double dose ofspeed, agility and athleti-cism and it’s going to be Hid-

den Valley like Territor-ians have never seenit before.’’

The NT Government andMr Konsky’s organisationhave sourced 10,000 tonnesof dirt to build thesupercross track withjumps and obstacles inthe middle of the HiddenValley circuit.

A thriller pass, whichprovides admission to bothevents over the weekend,will cost $20 per day,with children 8-13 years $10per day.
