vision, such as new vehicles, increased

frequency, and route improvements for better

better service.

WHY TARAVAL?

» Taraval Street is one of the most dangerous streets in

the city for pedestrians

vehicle while walking

» 22of those hit were getting on or off the train

WHY TARAVAL?

» The L Taraval

also carries

nearly 30,000

people

» Slow and

unreliable

» Leads to long

waits at the

stop, crowded

trains

BOARDING ISLANDS

Giving riders a

place to stand

Boarding islands

provide transit riders a

safe place to get on

and off the train, and

will eliminate most

collisions.

Result in parking to be

converted to a travel

lane. Judah Street boarding island

Taraval/23rd Ave. boarding island

Add angled parking on side streets

PARKING RELOCATION STRATEGIES TO

SUPPORT PROPOSED SAFETY IMPROVEMENTS

Manage nearest spaces on side

streets to encourage turnover

PARKING RELOCATION PLAN

L BOARDING ZONE PILOT

PILOT LOCATION CRITERIA

Low-risk stop

• No crashes during study period (2009-2013)

• Fewer than 300 daily alighting's (95% of

crashes happen when passengers are alighting, not

boarding)

PILOT EVALUATION

Evaluation criteria:
