Greetings Aztecs!
What a fantastic summer it’s
been. Can you believe we start
school in a month? Although we
haven’t been able to see eachoth-
er as often, we still managed to par-
ticipate in multiple service projects
with our community and division
such as Concerts in the Park, Relay
For Life, and Beach Clean Ups. We
also fundraised 181.61$ for PTP!
And 70$ toward Relay for Life!
Division also fundraised for PTP; we
participated in “Splash Attack” with
our LTG, having fun and donating at
the same time. But get ready for
August because we’re going to
have a multiple events and fund-
raisers such as Movies in the Park,
BBQ Bonanza, Beach Clean Ups,
Beach Boomba, Divisional Bonfire,
and more bake sales. Wow. So tell
me Aztecs, how do you feel?!
Your President,

A Message from your
Secretary
Hello, fellow aztec otters! I
am proud to announce that
we've accomplished a full 1500
hours since April! WOW! By going
to events such as the Concerts in
the Park at Mile Square and the
Realy For Life at Fountian Valley
High, You guys have truly stepped
up your game from 1000 hrs from
last year's term. However, why
stop there? We still have half of
the summer and the whole
school year ahead of us. Be pre-
pared for the upcoming Beach
Boomba where you'll meet many
new people from other divisons!
Make sure to continue showing
off that Aztec Spirit!
Your fellow secretary,
Christian Do
Past events
On June 28th, our club attended
a Surf Rider’s beach clean-up on
17th street. Despite the event taking place
bright and early on a summer day, a sur-
prising amount of members came out to
help. Collectively hauling our purple latex
gloves and eco-friendly trash bags, we
strolled onto the shores of Huntington
Beach to start the project. It soon turned
into a friendly competition, diving after
bottle caps and candy wrappers.
Even though it wasn’t an enormous
group of members that attended the
event, we were able to collect at least eight
pounds of trash all together. Truthfully, five of those pounds came
from one member, but that just goes to show how spirited Key club-
bers can be, even at 9 AM during summer. I personally enjoyed this
event because of how well we worked together for a small group
of members. Not wanting to be there for the whole four hours, we
labored away; making sure the beach was spotless as fast as possi-
ble. US Open was probably a huge motivating factor, but it doesn’t
matter because we got the job done.

Darold had 5 lbs of trash! Nice
job Darold.

On July 28, I volunteered at a beach cleanup with my fellow keyclubbers. My first thought on this event was that it would be
boring since we were just going to pick up trash for hours and I’m usually really lazy to wake up early for events, but I’m always
down to meet new people! The people in this club are really friendly, and I’ve become comfortable around them. I wish I had
joined my freshman year…
Once Darold and I arrived at the beach, we were provided with bags and started cleaning. The beach was cleaner than
I’d expected it to be. Since we were the first ones there, we thought we’d get a head start on filling up our bag as if it were a
competition because they wanted to know the weight of the bag afterwards. Soon everyone came and after a while, we had a
break. Darold and I found out that the others took a group picture without us!! All of us bonded, and it was a good vibe.
Then, we waited for Jennifer because she lagged. At this point, we were all satisfied with the amount of trash we
picked up, and it was amazing how this one guy measured our bags just by shaking it! Darold’s weighed the most: an impressive
5.0 and the least someone had was like a 0.10. I’m pretty sure the jacket Darold dug out of the trash can weighed a lot…
After a surprisingly fast cleanup, we split into groups. The girls watched U.S. Open while the guys, including Kelly, wan-
dered around Main Street and had their lunch at Subway.
In conclusion, it was a memorable day at the beach and I don't regret signing up. It’s funny how Mindy became ”three shades
darker!” SHE’S ALREADY SUPER BLACK!!
I’m proud to be a keyclubber ‘cause I always have a good time!

As weeks of service roll by, La Quinta High
School Key Clubbers began the month of July
with Concerts in the Park. This service project
was held at the Fountain Valley Recreational
Center in Mile Square Park. Hundreds of
families gathered in front of the stage to
enjoy live music and delicious food
provided by the Kiwanis tent. These
volunteers were in charge of playing
games with kids and
handing out free
stress balls.
Once again,
these otters put smiles to the faces of happy children
and adults.

Relay For Life is a life-changing event that gives everyone in communities across the globe a chance to celebrate the lives of people who have bat-tled cancer, remember loved ones lost, and fight back against the disease.
On July 14th, 2012 I attended
my very first Relay for Life.
When I first heard about Relay
for Life I did not know what to
expect. At first, I thought that we were just go-
ing to volunteer, help, and support those who
were fighting against cancer. However, it was
so much more than that. For some, this event
was a comfort zone for them to remember their
loved ones. For others, it was an eye-catching
event because it’s not every day you see a
community so united to accomplish the same
goal. At Relay for Life I learned many new
things, but what really caught my attention
were the purple and white themed banners
that had the three words: Celebrate. Remem-
ber. Fight back. Each of these words meant
something which was that you celebrate those
who are still living, remember your loved ones,
and help the community fight back against
cancer. This was a memorable event for me be-
cause I met a lot of new people from other
schools that weren’t in Division 4 North and I got
to experience what it was like to relay for peo-
ple’s lives.
“Everyone generous-ly donated a total of 70$ to-ward finding a cure to cancer! ”
Everyone stayed overnight/late to attend the Relay for Life Ceremony ->
and to walk around the track. Many kept track of their laps through keeping
beads around a bracelet.
“Walking for Relay For Life made me realize that no mat-ter what how difficult things get, whether we have lost a family member or watched another struggle, there will always be hope. There will always be people who will care. And that’s why we do what we do. We were walking for a cure, for a change.”
- Mindy Vo
Luminary Bags Members walked around the track at Fountain Valley, where it is lined with
hundreds of glowing luminary bags. As the sun set, the simple parchment
bags turned into glowing orbs of hope, lighting the way to-
ward finding a cure, one step at
a time.

For their July DCM, Di-
vision 4 North gath- ered at Garden
Grove Park and held a fundraiser for Pe-
diatric Trauma Pre- vention. These ot-
ters donated three dollars and partici-
pated in a water bal- loon fight. With a
donation of one dollar, members had an opportunity to pie the divisional board. Afterwards,
the water balloon fight began and these otters started getting soaking wet. One by one, over
five hundred water balloons flew in the air. Within several minutes, all that was left were scraps
of balloons and drops of whipped cream scattered across the ground. Division 4 North ended
the social by cleaning up and saying goodbyes to their fellow otters!

team!
Sunday, July 22: Jennifer, Christine, Kelly, Darold, Alex, Vincent, Christian, Duy, Jacqueline, Mindy, and Travis arrived bright and early in front of Albertsons, setting up tables, chairs, and trays of goodies. Even our LTG, Helen, joined us that afternoon! Jennifer lured customers over with her signature Key Club spirit and irresistible cute-ness. We are proud to announce that after a gruel-ing afternoon with hot sun and no shade, we managed to produce 181.61$ for Pediatric Trauma Program.
