There’s nothing better than Spring time in New York- it’s bursting with new life, opportunity and endless inspiration. What also makes the city particularly special to me is the diversity of people and their individual styles. For this Echelon season, we tapped into that energy and diversity through long time relationships forged by skateboarding. These guys encompass both New York and what Echelon stands for- timelessness and a high standard for detail and style. A big thanks to Mike Hernandez, Marc Razo, Alex Corporan, Lee Smith and Chris Keefe for being a part of this. You guys are the inspiration for Echelon Spring 2015. - Scott Johnston

A South Bronx born New York City native, Mike Hernandez was a 90’s era professional skateboarder for the iconic New York brand ‘American Dream Inc.’ More recently well known for his track bike skills, he is also one of New York’s bravest; a proud mem-ber of the NYFD for over ten years now. His style, skill and bravery make him a true inspiration for all of us.

Although he originally hails from Vermont, having lived in NYC’s East Village for over 25 years now qualifies him as an honorary New Yorker. Mark is the bass player for a band named Endless Boogie and also the director of the annual famed guitar battle ‘Shred for your Life’. But what really makes him an NY fixture is his dedication to tending bar at the infamous Max Fish since the early days. Marc Razo is truly one of the great ones.

Alex has essentially been the host to skateboarders visiting New York City for as long as we can remember. In a city not always known for hospitality, he was always there with open arms- taking the best care of you while out in the streets and then making sure you ended up where you needed to be to enjoy the night life. He eventually parlayed this way of life into a marketing career, currently working as a freelance PR guy for all those brands in search of a legitimate piece of that New York flavor.

Founded in 2003 by professional skateboarder Chris Keeffe, DQM started out as a small sneaker store and skate shop in Manhattan’s Bowery District. Ten years later it has matured into a stand alone brand that all of us at Lakai greatly respect. The design ideology of Echelon syncs up perfectly with everything DQM represents making this collaboration a perfect synergy between long time friends.
