Compensation StrategiesHelping all levels of students who don’t know an

expression, who fail to hear something clearly and who are faced with the situation that not clear about the meaning of the vocabulary to overcome these knowledge limitations in all four skills.

Guessing intelligentlyGenerally, guessing is useful for listening and

reading. It helps the students to think about their old knowledge and try out to answer before they get all comprehension of the words. It’ll help them get more understanding in meaning of words

Using other cluesHelping the students to get a whole

comprehension of the word, sentence or content of the situation by using other materials such aspictures, VDO, audio sound or other media in stead of using only linguistic. Let them try out to find the answer or meaning of the words. And they will get more clearly understanding.

Activity 1 (Where are they?) Reference:

(We applied the method of this activity by using the pictures and audio sounds to guide the students in order to make them gain more comprehension and can find the correct words with the pictures. )

Structure

Prepositions of place

Preposition of place is a word which shows relationships among other words in the sentence in place where they are located.

It always goes with a noun or pronoun. And it is almost always before the noun or pronoun.

near The coffee shop is near the cinema.

across The gym is across from the bookstore.

under The box is under the tree.

between The shop is between the bank and the park.

Excuse me. I’m new in town. Can you tell me a little about the neighborhood?

Sure. What do you want to know?

Well, first of all, I’m looking for a bookstore. Is there onearound here?

Hmm, well the nearest one is on Forest Drive, across from the bank.

Forest Drive?

Yeah.The bookstore is between 2nd and 3rd .But it’s not very good I’m afraid.

Ok.I’ll look anyway. And how about places to eat? Can you recommend a good Indian restaurant?

There’s one on the corner of 2nd and Pine Street-the TajMahal .I go there all the time. It is across from the subway entrance.

On the corner of Second and Pine? Ok .Got that .What about if I just want coffee?

You could try the coffee shop on Grove Street, across from the park .It’s also across from the gym I go to. It has great coffee and cakes, and the prices are very good.

So, the coffee shop is on Fourth and Grove-across from the gym?

That’s right.

How about the hairdresser? I need to get my hair cut.

Try the one on the corner of Grove and 2nd .It’s ok.

Great. And how about a Chinese restaurant?

There’s a great one on Fourth, next to the gym. But it’s very small and it’s always crowded.
