LESSON PLAN 2: SPORTS

DATE: Friday, August 19th

5to C from 10:45 to 11:30,

and 5to A from 11.30 to 12:15

CLASS: Fifth Grade A-C

LENGTH OF THE LESSON: 40 MINUTES

CLASS DESCRIPTION: There are twenty-three students in this group, all between ten andeleven years old. They have English classes twice a week, each class lasts forty minutes. Thisgroup of students work at its pace, which is rather slowly. Their proficiency level is A1.

SKILLS TO BE EMPHASIZED: Listening, speaking, reading and writing.

LANGUAGE:

- Vocabulary sports and nationalities

- Present Simple: Where is she from? She is from China/I’m good at …

- Present Continuous: She is doing gym.

AIMS:

By the end of this class, students will be able to recognize different nationalities and sports.Besides, they will become culturally aware of how sports get people together and create asense of community and belonging. They will about medals materials and structures thatindicate abilities (I’m good at…).

MATERIALS:

- whiteboard- markers- projector- powerpoint- photocopies

Anticipated problems: Some students could have problems in the understanding of some newstructures presented-

Possible solutions: We will provide them the necessary help in order to overcome thatproblem using visual aids, gestures and making a wise use of L1 and L2.

We will ask them about theOlympic Games that are takingplace in Rio this year. We willshow them pictures of differentsports people and differentnationalities. Asking themwhether they know them or not.

Matching

We will give them a handoutwith a matching activityincluding sports andnationalities; we will check thisactivity using the PowerPointpresentation. (visual aid)

Ss(Individual) 10 min.

Production

We will revise the colours, wewill ask them what the coloursof the Olympic Rings are andthen we will ask them to paintthe medal with the Olympiccolours.

T-Ss15 min.
