called New Amsterdam? It is sometimes referred to as ‘the Big

Apple’ There are five boroughs that make up New

York City. These are: Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, the Bronx, and Staten Island.

Manhattan in New York is organised by a grid system. This was put into place in 1881. This means that the streets are easier to navigate and more uniform than irregular, or more traditional patterns of streets.
