Africa’s greatest resource is her women, waiting to be empowered.
For decades, women have been the most marginalised and wounded people on the continent. Watoto’s Living Hope works to restore dignity to vulnerable women. Many of the women are HIV+ and have
been victims of human trafficking, left to bear the brunt of AIDS, war and social injustice.
Through Living Hope they are equipped with necessary life skills and empowered through income generating projects, enabling them to become productive members of the community. In addition, the comprehensive
psychosocial support they receive has given them purpose, dignity, and a future.
Launched in early 2008, Living Hope has transformed the lives of almost 3,000 women. Their children, more than 15,000 boys and girls, now have a better chance at a future.
Throughout the catalogue, meet some of our Living Hope leaders and explore the products they’ve designed. Each item in the collection has been named after these heoric women.

Sarafina is a trainer and a leader within Living Hope. Over the years, she has earned the trust and respect of the ladies. Daily she walks between the
rows of tailoring machines at the centre and leans closely, whispering direction and encouragement to each woman.
Throughout life Monica has experienced tremendous loss. She’s lost her father, her mother, her husband and one of her sons.
Eventually she came to Living Hope and felt the warm, loving embrace of what she now calls her ‘family’. Monica has learned her true value and has become a leader
in the Living Hope Workshop.
AMITO DOLL
The Amito doll is based on the book ‘Welcome Home Amito’ by Watoto. Amito represents the many boys and girls throughout Africa who, like Amito, are orphaned and don’t have the opportunities to grow up in a loving, safe environment. Since 1994 Watoto has been caring for children like Amito. More than 3,000 children have been rescued so far.
