reproduced in various sizes and physical materials ▪ Fabric (t-shirt, hats…)▪ Paper (ads in newspapers and magazines)▪ Billboards▪ Posters▪ 3-D▪ Web▪ TV

Simplicity is best Font Colors▪ No more than 2 colors (due to price of printing with

multiple colors)

▪ Best color combinations:

▪ White on Black or Black on White

▪ Yellow on Black or Black on Yellow

▪ Yellow on Red or Red on Yellow

Parts of a Logo

Mark The symbol that represents the company

Company Name The name of the company

Strapline (optional) Tag or motto

Using Symmetry

Symmetry is when one shape becomes exactly like another if you flip, slide or turn it

3 types symmetry to transform an image in Logos

Reflection Symmetry

Mirror or flip symmetry

One side is a mirror image of another

You can put a vertical line down the middle of the image to see “mirror” image of one side

Rotation Symmetry

Can be produced by turning an object degrees

Translation Symmetry

Laying objects without flipping or turning objects

These are types of logos that consist of connected letters.

Lettermarks

These are types of logos where a letter in the logo is replaced by a graphic

Wordmarks

Font based logos where an entire word in the name is graphic in nature due to font/typeface choice

Monograms

Logo composed of typically initials or name of company used as an identifying mark usually in a circular shape
