Lyndon State Forest was acquired in 1912 and was one of our firstState Forests. The parcel was purchased to demonstrate methods for managing blowing sands associated with the barren open space ofLyndon. This involved the planting of various species of softwood trees and sand binding grasses. Many of the larger trees on the parcel were planted in that year. Forests, Parks and Recreation has conducted a number of timber harvests on the forest and most of the forest that is present is the result of natural regeneration from the plantation trees. The goal of the original project was to stop the blowing sand and this project is a success. Forests, Parks and Recreation has harvested over 1.2 million board feet of sawtimber off this 74 acres. This is enough lumber to frame 125average (1,500 square foot) homes. All that volume was part of theoriginal planting which took place in 1912.

TrailsThe trails at Lyndon State Forest are managed with support from the Kingdom Trails Association, Town of Lyndon and a number of localvolunteers. The trails are designed for beginner and intermediatemountain bike riders. The soils on the forest are suitable for earlyand late season riding. Even though these are designed as bike trails they are available for all users of the public land. Please enjoy your visit.

Guidelines and Regulations

* Everyone is here to have a good time and being nice solves a lot of problems before they happen.* Don't make a mess of our space. Some people say, "Leave no trace." That's almost right. We think it should be, "Make it nicer than before you came." * Overnight camping and open fires are prohibited on this parcel.

* Yield. Yield. Yield. To pedestrians and uphill bike traffic.* Stay on the trail. * Stay in control. Don't ride beyond your limits.* Trails are open for foot traffic and bike riding only. * Trails are open during the winter months conditions permitting.* Consider supporting Kingdom Trails Association since they assist with management of these trails.* If you see any trail maintenace issues please contact us.
