CULTIVATION

• In India it is grown in Bihar, Assam, West Bengal, Tripura, Manipur.

• It is cultivated in stagnant water source.

Makhana in Bihar• Bihar accounts for 90% of its production.• Area under production is 0.27 lakh ha• Annual production is 0.15 lakh MT.• 2 lakh people of fishing community is engaged in

production.• Has a unique marketing channel

Scope of Agri export zone• Replete with inefficiencies.• Rigidities in the factor market, including the

weather pond resources .• Absence of new technological packages.• Large intermediaries• Interlinked credit and product transactions

with high element of exploitation.• Weak socio-institutional settings of operation• absence of adequate demand absorptions,

large price and production fluctuations
