STATE TIMES NEWSBHADARWAH: PrimeMinister Narendra Modi andUnion housing and urbanaffairs minister HardeepSingh Puri awarded the 'bestconstruction award' throughvideo conferencing underPradhan Mantri AwasYojana to an elderly coupleresident of Jammu andKashmir's Bhadarwah town.

The awardee was joined byDDC Doda Dr SagarDattaray Doifode, ExecutiveOfficer BMC (BhadarwahMunicipal Committee) Yusaf-Ul-Umar and other officials,at the mini secretariat Doda.

During the video-confer-ence, PM Modi talked aboutthe scheme that started inJune 2015 and the number ofbeneficiaries from poor andmiddle-class urban families.

Out of total 88 beneficiar-ies selected for the best con-struction award from thecountry, three belonged toUT of Jammu and Kashmirincluding one each fromSamba, Ramgarh andBhadarwah.

From Ward 10 of TharraMohalla of Bhadarwah townelected for the award isAbdul Latief Ganai (65),who use to work at a smallcloth shop had a severe slipdisc, due to which heremained bed ridden for 15years and became bankrupt.

"Due my prolonged illness,I have to sell everything I hadand lived in one room withmy wife and two sons," saidAbdul Latief Ganai (65).

While expressing his grati-tude to the Prime Minister,Ganai said that PMAYscheme came as a blessing indisguise for my family as

today we are living in ourown pucca house and alsohave been awarded for thebest construction by thePrime Minister himself.

His 24 years-old sonNadeem Latief, who recentlycompleted his post gradua-tion in history also joined hisfather at Doda during thePrime Minister's video con-ference and felt elated whilehis father's name was beingannounced for the best con-struction award.

"We have seen very diffi-cult times as for years meand my brother use to spendnights with our cousins or

friends place as we have onlyone room, but now we haveour own roof for which we arethankful to the honorablePrime Minister," saidNadeem Latief son of LatiefGanai.

EO Muncipal CommitteeBhadarwah while appreciat-ing the efforts of awardedfamily said that they con-structed the house as perguidelines and today theyhave been awarded for theirhonesty and dedication whichis matter of pride for us aswell.

"I hope all the beneficiarieswill get inspiration fromLatief as in Bhadarwah towna total of 330 homes havebeen sanctioned underPMAY Urban, out of which200 are under constructionand 47 have been alreadycompleted," said Yusaf-Ul-Umar, EO BMC.

Under the EWS(Economically weakerSections) scheme, each bene-ficiary is given a grant of Rs1.66 lakh to build his/herhouse.

On this occasion, SC StateCoordinator, Bodh RajBhagat said that the SCcommunity has always beentreated as vote bank by theprevious Govts and the polit-ical parties have misled themwith their hollow slogans.

According to Trafficpolice, the vehicular move-ment was stopped in view ofslippery conditions andaccumulation of snowaround Jawahar Tunnel.
