TRANSCRIPT
In May 1900, a meeting was held by footballers of West Broken Hill elector-ate division at the Criterion Hotel. A resolution was car-ried that a club be formed to be called the West Broken Hill Football Club and the colours chosen were Red and Black.
And from here the West Football Club was born…..
The club promotes a family orientated culture, who prides itself on developing good people as im-portantly as good players, with many hundreds of families growing up in this club culture that has led to many life long friendships being formed.
Always throughout its history it has adopted best prac-tice training tech-niques and been at the forefront of game
and facility develop-ment in Broken Hill.
West Broken Hill
Football club was the
first ever Broken Hill
Football league pre-
miers.
We were the first club to have large spacious club facili-ties.
The “Westies” devel-oped and began the first ever junior “Auskick” develop-ment programme anywhere in Austra-lia (1961), known then as Mosquito Fleet.
And this was soon
copied by VFL,
SANFL and WAFL
clubs to develop,
support and nurture
up and coming junior
AFL footballers.
The WFC most suc-cessful eras were the early 1900’s and the 1960’s, winning con-
secutive premier-ships during this time with the 60’s being the halcyon years.
To this day we are still at the forefront of junior player de-velopment and cur-rently have one past “Mosquito Fleet” player in Brent Staker, playing at the highest level with the Brisbane Lions AFL club and have another, Tom Kickett as a scholar-ship holder with the Hawthorn Football Club.
West Broken Hill
Football Club has
begun preparations
to push forward to
be a force in the
Broken Hill Football
League for many
years to come.

INSIDE THIS ISSUE:
**WFC Oval Hands up those who have noticed how wonder-ful the WFC oval is looking!!! With lots of hard work and TLC John Blore, Peter King and all their kind helpers have tirelessly weeded, fertilized and mowed the oval over the summer to bring it up to this amazing standard!! It’s been so long since one has been able to have a bit of a roll around on the lawn and not get a prickle in your bum!! A job well done to all those in-volved!!
** SEE Park We have been successful in gaining funding to enhance SEE Park. Whilst we are not re-sponsible for the park, we have been caretakers for many
years. For those who don't know, SEE Park (front of the WFC) is a War Memorial for Sol-ders lost in WW1. On advice from BHCC Heritage Advisor the funding will go to-wards erecting a me-morial to honour the fallen & make it a place for reflection to those we lost. The funding is in con-junction with BHCC & The NSW Premier’s Department and a plan is currently be-ing developed.
**Car Raffle Tickets sales for the car raffle as progressing nicely. Having the car dis-played at the Plaza has been a great suc-cess!! With only 4 weeks to go, we may even make target. We still require more helpers to sell tickets. If anyone can help
out, even for a cou-ple of hours a week, p lease conta c t Heather on 0411 281 427.
**The Great Broken Hill Reunion We have the opportunity to have a sausage sizzle fundraiser at the Picnic Day on Easter Sunday at Sturt Park. At this stage we (WFC) are the only ones having a major food stall, and have a great op-portunity to raise some ser iously needed dollars to inject into the Club. But as usual volun-teers are need. If you are in town and can spare some time p lease conta c t Heather 0411 281 427. Any type of help will be appreci-ated.
