MAKER CLUB AT BAYSIDE/MLK ACADEMY Throughout the school year we had a weekly maker club

at Bayside/MLK. Kids made stomp rockets, learned how to “scratch” DJ, did hands-on candy and bubble science, and lots more!

INTERNATIONAL TABLETOP DAY AND IN’TERNATIONAL GAMES DAY @ YOUR LIBRARY

Games can teach us so much! Here are guides to show how the games correspond to Common Core Curriculum.

We provide a wide variety of games—and snacks with support from our Friends of the Marin City Library!

SCHOOL EVENTSFormer Oakland Warriors player Adonal Foyle came to Bayside/MLK.. Etienne Douglas was there to take pictures and represent the library. Our Friends of the Marin City Library helped purchase copies of “Too Tall Foyle Finds His Game” for the kids.

SUMMER!One of our staff members’ brother made o giant Jenga game for us, which we took to the Marin County Fair.

We had our summer learning program kick-off party with lots of fun games and yummy food.

MONTHLY FAMILY GAME NIGHTEvery third Saturday we have a monthly game night that brings the community together.

NORTH BAY SCIENCE DISCOVERY DAYMarin City Library staff supported the Bookmobile in MCFL’s participation at the North Bay Science Fair. Here we see Etienne Douglas demonstrating 3D printing to attendees.

SPACE SATURDAYS Families making rocket ships and jointed astronauts.

Other Space Saturdays activities included kids making their own books and solar system bracelets.

MAGIC OF POETRY

Friends’ funds supported the purchase of some books and magic kit door prizes for our event.

Ethan Swope, our local (now teen) magician, taught kids some basic magic tricks.

MY PLACEMY STORY

ADULT COLORING We offer a variety of coloring books and materials for

adults to use. Adult coloring has become popular in libraries and is a great way to relax.

SUMMER LEARNING PROGRAM

Our Friends of the Marin County Library and Friends of the Marin City Library supported summer learning program kick-off party and other programs, including our giant Jenga, which we took to the Marin County Fair.

SUMMER LEARNING PROGRAM

Kids created their own “I Spy” games, we hosted a video tournament day, created our own bouncing balls and learned about the science of how balls bounce, made light-up felt LED monsters, and made buttons.

PRINCESS CASSIESTEAM PROGRAM

Our local Friends supported a STEAM program in which kids learned basic circuitry and created their own light-up fairytale storybooks.

OTHER SCIENCE PROGRAMS

Kite science and a dinosaur fossil dig!

SCIENCE FOR THE WIN!Marin Learning Center preschoolers joined us for the Science of Art and the Science of Sound programs. They made art projects using different media experiments and made their own rainsticks.

OUTREACH:BACK TO SCHOOL RALLY ANDLIBRARY CARDS FOR ALL BAYSIDE/MLK KIDS

With the help of our Friends of the Marin City Library we provided much-needed school supplies for our Marin City kids.

The ever-popular Charlene Green always draws a crowd for her programs, and this one was no exception.

NOT SO SCARY HALLOWEEN PARTYParents have asked us to do a program where the little ones can feel safe. We played “ghost” bowling, created Perler bead decorations, and made “spider webs.”

What’s Next Marin? is a nonpartisan project partially sponsored by the Kettering Foundation. Local partners include Dominican University, the Community Development Agency of Marin County, MarinSpace, Common Knowledge and the Marin County Free Library.

SNOWMAN SOCIALKids made snow globes, sensory sandpaper “gingerbread” men, and snowman slime!

MAPETOY

DRIVEEtienne and Diana helped to coordinate MAPE’s participation in the

annual toy drive coordinated by Jill Peeler from the Marin County Sheriff’s Department. Diana worked with the regional branches to get collection barrels in their lobbies, and Etienne delivered and picked up barrels. He

brought all of the toys to the Sheriff’s/Fire Department Substation in

Marin City.

Terena Mares, Marin County Office of Education Deputy Superintendent; and Dr. Chapelle Griffin, Principal at

Bayside/MLK Academy read to children from the Bayside/MLK Academy (K-8) and the Marin Learning

Center (Pre-K).

In collaboration with the Marin County Library Foundation and

Marin Housing Authority, a copy of the book: “The Bear Ate Your Sandwich” to all the children.
